One of the most popular casino games is the roulette game. But, playing roulette can be intimidating for those who have never seen a table like that before.
That is what we are here for, as we go over the basics of how to play roulette.
How to Play Roulette
Roulette is honestly a very easy game to play once you have a basic understanding of it. The dealer places a white ball on the wheel, and the ball spins around to land on a certain number.
In the American version of the game, there are 38 numbers that the ball can land on. These are the numbers 1-36, along with 0 and 00. Only the American version has 00, which means the house has an increased edge, which we will get to later.
Before the ball slows down on the wheel, it is up to you the player to place bets on where you will think it will land. It is the same online except virtually but these are the best online casinos for real play if you want something as close to the real experience as possible.
Now, let’s get to the bets:
Single Number
This is the most basic bet. You just have to pick any one number on the board and place a chip on it. The payout is 35 to 1 odds.
Number Combinations
If you want to improve your odds, you are allowed to bet on more than one number with one bet. You can bet anywhere between 2-6 numbers with one chip but the payout decreases as you add more numbers to your bet.
Columns
When you see a roulette table, you will notice that numbers are organized into three different columns. You are allowed to place a bet on any of the columns, so you are getting 12 more random numbers with 2 to 1 odds.
The catch is that 0 and 00 are not available on any of these columns.
Dozens
Another option you have with 2 to 1 odds is to bet on every dozen numbers. So you can bet on 1-12, 13-24, or 25-36 to come out.
Odds and Evens
This pays out at 1 to 1 odds but you get 18 numbers for your bet. Naturally, you are simply picking whether an odd or even number comes out of the 36, with 0 and 00 not being eligible.
Colors
The regular numbers on a roulette table are colored either red or black. There are 18 of each, and you have the option to pick what color number comes out.
Again, like the above, 0 and 00 are not included in this bet.
Low and High
Finally, you have the option to bet at 1 to 1 odds if a low or high number comes out. This basically lets you choose either 1-18 or 19-36, increasing the number of numbers in your bet from the dozens option.
